Senior Backend Engineer | Fully Remote UK | Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Cloud| £70k–£80k + Equity - EdTech 

We’re partnering with a small, fast-growing AI company building an assessment platform already used to process millions of responses for organisations across education and professional training. Following a recent seed round and rapid team growth, they’re now looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help turn their AI capabilities into reliable, scalable product infrastructure.

You’ll work hands-on across Python backend services, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, asynchronous processing, queues, retries, customer integrations, authentication and AWS. You’ll also work closely with AI engineers to support data ingestion, evaluation, tracing, feedback capture and operational reliability.

We’re looking for:

• Circa 5+ years’ backend or full-stack engineering experience
• Strong production Python
• FastAPI or similar Python API frameworks
• PostgreSQL and relational database design
• SQLAlchemy / Alembic or similar
• Async processing, workers, queues, retries and batching
• API security, OAuth/JWT and service-to-service authentication
• AWS or similar cloud experience
• Comfortable owning delivery in a small, fast-moving team

This is a genuine high-ownership role in a very lean engineering environment. You’ll work closely with technical leadership, influence architecture and engineering standards, and help shape the backend platform as the company scales. The role is fully remote within the UK, with only occasional London meetups, alongside equity, flexible hours, learning budget and conference support.
